Genre: The Tragedy
Genre: I loved it once. The word, the very concept, that delightful French-style curl on the ‘-r’ that makes it less of a word and more of a noise. But I’ve come to a recent realisation, one that makes me sad and angry and a little bit giddy, all at the same time.
Genre’s a bitch.

Questions For Writers: Post-Game With Claire C Riley
In a time before BRAVE GODS was a thing, I posted some interview with fellow writers. Having deleted my old site, I wanted to keep come of the content.
This interview with Claire C Riley is from back in 2013 and shortly after the publication of her first novel, Limerence. Claire has since published the sequel, the successful Odium series of books, and has recently started working closely with Madeline Sheehan.

Talkin' About Tolkien
Spending a lot of time at home recently has given me the solitude to do a lot of things; to get back to building websites and reviewing things and writing about things and...okay, fine, all I've been doing is playing video games, now stop judging me!
It's been a while since I sat down and played any games; a big part of it was nausea and the general awkwardness of my brain after having surgery and various people and chemicals poking at my left hemisphere. But I've played quite a few games recently, and they've gotten me back to a sense of "normal."

Why I'm Not Giving You A Freebie
It's been a long time since I last did this blogging thing (for the purposes of brevity, we'll just call it "blogging.") The world has changed; blogging has changed. And the good news is, so have I.
I spent a lot of time writing about other people's work, reviewing other people's stories; I've always wanted to make my own, and being away from blogging and that side of things is what encouraged me to do just that.
That's right; I wrote a book.

It's A Jurassic World After All - Jurassic World (2015)
No, I don't know why they continue to keep (re)making sequels and prequels and spiritual successors to films that don't really needs to be fiddled with.
This is the rant that I was ready to go on about Jurassic World. And probably many people like me, 20-and-30-and-something-somethings: "why are you messing with the original?"
Except...that's sort of what Jurassic Park is all about, isn't it? Messing with the originals and bringing a monstrous bastardised behemoth back to life with disastrous results. That's the joy of Jurassic World; every argument you can make against the film is already there It's a freaking theme of the entire franchise, and you can't get much more meta than that.

Paranormally Active - Paranormal Activity (2009)
Few films have experienced the frenzied internet marketing hype that Paranormal Activity has received in the last few months: sure, this year has also given us the phenomenal trailer to Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus (a far better experience than the film) and Neill Blomkamp’s debut feature District 9 proved that aliens could still rake in the cash at the box office. But the effortless success that Paranormal Activity has had in the US has kept the film riding high in terms of takings and hype. It’s even been a consistently trending topic on Twitter since even before its release.

Nathan Drake > Lara Croft - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009)
There’s a lot that Nathan Drake, star of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on Sony’s PlayStation 3, has in common with Lara Croft, star of the Tomb Raider series: both make a living from some combination of being an archaeologist, adventurer and historian; both mingle with colleagues who aren’t always the most honest of business partners; and both know how to handle themselves in a fight. We’ve yet to see pictures of Nathan Drake in a clingy top that accentuates his cleavage, so I think it’s safe to say that that’s where the similarities end.

In Space. Screaming. Yadayadayada - Pandorum (2009)
Horror movies set in space are always a bit hit-or-miss: for every Alien, there's a Jason X, and a hell of a lot more in between. Pandorum, a US/German co-production from director Christian Alvart, might have a trailer that tries to sell it down the Alien-route, but having watched the film, you might be left wondering if you have to re-evaluate your opinions on what makes a bad horror-in-space film.

In Search Of Home - Away We Go (2009)
Having already won Oscars and hearts with Revolutionary Road and his directorial debut American Beauty, Sam Mendes returns to the world of couples and relationships for Away We Go, being flown into cinemas by stork this weekend. Yes, this is a film about pregnancy, babies and families, but before you start worrying that things might get too mushy, you can relax.
